Your dentures give you a full, beautiful smile that boosts your self-confidence. To make sure this continues to happen, you need to commit to keeping your dentures clean by taking the following steps:
- Clean your mouth after taking out your dentures—Even though you wear dentures, part of keeping them as clean as possible involves taking good care of your mouth as a whole. Every time you remove your dentures, use a soft toothbrush or a piece of gauze to clean your cheeks, the roof of your mouth, and your tongue.
- Remove your dentures after eating—Whenever you get done eating, take out your dentures and run water over them to get rid of any remaining loose particles or food debris. When you do this, make sure you place a towel at the bottom of the sink or on the counter, so if you drop them, they won’t break.
- Take the time to brush your dentures once every day—On a daily basis, soak and brush your dentures using a nonabrasive denture cleaner to eliminate plaque and food from them. Make sure you never use denture cleaners when your dentures are still inside of your mouth.
- Soak your dentures every night—When you go to bed, put your dentures in a mild denture solution or water. This will help them keep their shape and remain moist as time passes.
