What Makes a Great Family Dentist?

When looking for a family dentist, what types of things should you be considering in your search?  At Northern Horizon Dental, we understand that when choosing a dentist for your family, you want not only the best of care, but also to feel cared for and comfortable in their office environment. That trip to the dentist doesn’t have to be uncomfortable or scary. In fact, it can become something you and your family might come to enjoy.  So, when choosing a great family dentist, here are just a few of the things you should consider:

  • Competence.  This should go without saying, but you certainly want to find a family dentist who is well-practiced in their field and specialties, with solid training and experience to ensure you are given the best of care.
  • Care.  You want your family to feel cared for and comfortable when they visit the dentist.  A good family dentist should provide an office environment that is clean and inviting, with competent, happy, and friendly staff that can help put you and your family at ease.  You should know you are valued by your dentist.
  • Ability to work with patients of all ages.  A good family dentist should be as comfortable and competent during a pediatric exam as they are when working with an older patient in need of dentures.
  • Flexibility with scheduling.  A family dentist should be able to try and accommodate the various needs of patients with a wide-range of availability, such as students in school or adults who are working.  Obviously, some accommodation and flexibility is needed on both sides, but look for a family dentist who is known for really putting patients’ needs at the top of their list.
